Description » | Research study seeking to understand the effects of past and current Meth use on the brain and central nervous system. Study also seeks to understand the relationship between Meth use, HIV, and HCV infection. Includes a sub-study focusing on HCV treatment. |
Criteria » | Includes people with methamphetamine dependence within the last 18 months and people who have rarely or never used methamphetamine. People in either group may have had experimental use of other substances. Eligibility for the HCV treatment sub-study includes past Meth dependence and scheduled treatment for HCV at the UCSD Liver Clinic |

Description » | A research study seeking to understand the effects of advanced HIV on the brain and central nervous system. Assessments will be scheduled every 6 months with payment for each completed visit. The study also seeks to establish a tissue bank for HIV positive donors. Sites are available in San Diego (HNRC), Irvine (UCI), and Los Angeles (Cedars Sinai Medical Center/Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and USC). |
Criteria » | People with advanced HIV (AIDS) to participate in a research study that will involve semi-annual visits in order to track HIV-related changes in cognition. Pre-consent to autopsy and tissue banking are required for participation in this study. |

Description » | A research study attempting to learn more about the effects of HIV in the brain and central nervous system and to understand the effects of various treatment options. |
Criteria » | Experiencing changes in thinking, memory, attention, or concentration since becoming HIV-positive; having friends and family comment on difficulties remembering or understanding what has been said; getting lost in familiar places; or becoming unable to complete basic tasks. Possibly changing HIV medications due to low CD4 cell count and/or high viral load. |

Description » | A research study being conducted to learn more about how infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may affect memory, everyday functioning and adherence to medications. If someone participates in this study and is HIV-positive and currently taking HIV medications, he or she may be randomly assigned to participate in a medication adherence sub-study that will last for a total of 5 weeks. |
Criteria » | No substance abuse or dependence within the last 12 months. |
