Patricia “Katie" Riggs, DO

Patricia “Katie" Riggs, DO, presented at the Joint NIMH Centers Seminar.

Brain health disorders, including cognitive impairment and depression, remain common in people with HIV despite effective antiretroviral therapy, yet the biological mechanisms driving these outcomes remain poorly understood. Dr. Patricia (Katie) Riggs presented preliminary findings from her K12-supported research examining how chronic viral infections and antiviral immune responses shape brain health in people with HIV. Using VirSIGHT, a high-resolution pan-viral antibody profiling platform, her work aims to identify antiviral immune signatures associated with neurocognitive outcomes and inform future precision approaches to diagnosis and treatment.
