Kaitlin Blackstone Announced as Society for Clinical Neuropsychology Blue Ribbon Award Winner

Kaitlin Blackstone’s Division 40 abstract submission for this year’s Society for Clinical Neuropsychology conference taking place June 25-28, 2014 was the top rated student author submission for scientific merit and impact.  Her research investigated the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery (NIH-TB-CB) as a possible brief neurocognitive screening instrument for use in a clinical setting to identify HIV+ individuals with evidence of some level of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND).

The NIH-TB-CB is a 30-minute, computerized assessment that covers six ability domains (i.e., executive functions, episodic memory, processing speed, working memory, attention, and language). Despite improved antiretroviral treatment, approximately a third to a half of HIV+ individuals evidence some level of HAND so there is a growing demand for brief neurocognitive screening instruments in order to identify these individuals in the clinic.
