HNRP Investigator David Moore collaborates on a newly funded HIV and Aging Study
Dilip Jeste and David Moore will conduct research on how positive psychosocial factors affect self-perceived successful aging during a study located at UC San Diego’s Stein Institute for Research on Aging and the HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program. Participants in the study will undergo neurocognitive evaluation, and these results will be related to biomarker data, inflammatory markers and self-reported lifestyle factors (e.g. diet, exercise, perceived stress, social support).
This 5-year multi-cohort longitudinal design study focuses on adults who are 36 to 65 years old, HIV infected and non-HIV infected. The National Institute of Mental Health has awarded this $3.4 million grant to study successful aging with HIV since more than one million Americans currently live with HIV, and by 2015 nearly half of these individuals will be over the age of 50 years. An understanding of successful aging may contribute to new preventive and therapeutic interventions geared towards improving the quality of life in adults living with HIV.
